Create for Dressember is back for 2020!

Create For Dressember is back for year two! I polled the Instagram community and unanimously everyone voted to bring back the challenge. If you're not sure what it's about, or you're curious about what's new for 2020, keep reading for all the details!

The Create For Dressember challenge is meant to go hand-in-hand with the anti-trafficking efforts of the Dressember organization. Every December, participants commit to wearing a dress or tie every day of the month to raise money and awareness for the organizations Dressember supports, like International Justice Mission, A21, and more. If you'd like to learn more about Dressember or participate as an advocate, you can visit their website. We encourage everyone interested in Create For Dressember to also participate in Dressember as an advocate.

Create For Dressember is another way to expand your participation in Dressember. It's a way to bring in other creative outlets than just fashion and clothing. We encourage everyone to use their favorite creative medium(s) to participate. Use each day's prompt to inspire your creativity, and share what you make on Instagram--and your other platforms--using the hashtag #CreateForDressember.

Not sure what to make or do? Think about something you enjoy doing, whether it's photography, collage, drawing or painting, music, poetry, lettering or calligraphy, storytelling, sculpting, graphic design, or baking. There are no limits to how you can participate! In fact, you may choose to offer your creations as gifts or incentives to those who donate to your (or another person's) Dressember fundraiser. So you can use your creations to raise awareness, spark conversation, and support Dressember's cause.

This year we've changed the prompts a little bit, with the hope that they will inspire you on this creative journey. Each day's prompt is a theme that relates to Dressember or the heart behind it. You can use the prompt in your piece, or simply use it as a starting point to get your creativity flowing. If you're not sure what to do, ask yourself what the theme looks like in your own life, or where you have seen it in the lives of others, or how you can represent it through what you make. Again, the sky is the limit!

We would love to have you participate every day of December, which is why there is one prompt for every day of the month. However, we know this can be challenging, especially with the holidays and the crazy world in which we live. If you can't join us every day, that's okay! Just jump in when you can. If you want to make something for each day, but are worried about the timing, feel free to start early. Most years I try to get some or all of my pieces made before December even starts. That way all I have to worry about each day is getting things posted.

Whatever Create for Dressember looks like for you, I hope you'll join us and invite your friends! The more people participating, the better Dressember will be. If you have questions, feel free to reach out, or leave them in the comments. Hope to see you December 1!
